Second Thoughts Book Tag! (Original)

Hello folks! Good to be back again! I’ve been away for some time, and I’m terribly sorry! I had a “writing slump”. Not a single idea came up when I sat down by my computer and faced the monitor and keyboard. Things like this happen, I believe it’s normal. DON’T SAY IT ISN’T. *convinces self* It’s completely normal, breathe…
Alright! Today’s prompt is an original book tag! The last one I made was with Little Livres/Maria. I can’t believe a lot of people did it! They even said it was TRENDING! Oh my goodness. (WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? OF COURSE I’M FINE… HAH) Thank you for those who did it! I love you guys! ❤

I just thought of this book tag 10 minutes ago and I knew I had to write it immediately because I’ll definitely never get the motivation to write it again! I’m not lazy as of this moment! I KNOW, A BIG MILESTONE. Okay, enough chattiness…

We all had second thoughts, don’t we? I, myself, am a VERY indecisive person. I always change my mind, which results to some regrets. But I mean, that’s normal. RIGHT?

Here the things you need to do/remember:

  • Bloggers and YouTubers are welcome to do this 🙂
  • Tag friends to do the post! Please don’t kill the tag!
  • P.S. You don’t have to be tagged to do this! IF YOU REALLY REALLY WANT TO DO IT, JUST DO IT. I know you wanna do it… *winks*

LET’S GET STARTED! (Oh I missed saying that.. er, typing that)

What is a book you thought was “way too cheesy”/”so not my style”/”way out of your league”, but ended up loving?

I really thought the A Court of Thorns and Roses series was way out of my league or was too much for me. Fantasy books intimidated me. I read Throne of Glass first and totally loved it, but I wasn’t convinced that Fantasy was for me. Plus, ACOTAR wasn’t a young adult novel and was way too “SPG”… but hey, I endured it! I actually loved the story and the characters. I’m glad I read the books! Though I admit, I still wince and feel uncomfortable about the sex scenes…

What is a book you hated, but loved/liked after giving it some thought or some time?

I hated Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. The Tv Series is AMAZING. Of course, a different kind of amazing… I realized, I hated the book because it was dull and uneventful. I read this back when I was in 8th grade. I admit I was way immature and unappreciative of books and stories back then. All I wanted was fun and adventure in books. I wasn’t ready to read these kind of books. 13RW deals with heavy and upsetting themes. I thought about the plot of the book and realized it is actually pretty good. The way the author dealt with the themes was good. I don’t love the book, but I definitely think highly of the book now.

What is a book you loved/liked, but hate/dislike today?

This has to be Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I was so amazed after reading it, but after some time I thought it wasn’t even good. I replayed the events in my head, and realized it wasn’t a good book. The writing didn’t do the plot justice; you get what I mean? The plot had potential but the way the author wrote the story was unengaging/dull. Another book would be The Fault in Our Stars. I read this back in 7th grade and was trying to “join the hype”. “Everyone loved it, so maybe I should like it too?” NO. JUST NO. WHAT WAS I THINKING?

A character you loved before and totally hate/dislike today?

Two characters for this one.

First, Peter Kavinsky. Put your pitchforks down… Calm down. This is quite an unpopular opinion, I know. I thought Peter K was THE MAN. I thought I was head over heels in love with him… Well, no. After reading PS I Still Like You, I found a better man. JOHN FREAKING AMBROSE McCLAREN. He is such an amazing character! Now, let me explain why I change my mind about Peter K. I realized: A) He’s a cliche character. Most of the love interests I choose are the unpopular ones… like why do characters always get together with the cliche ones? I probably don’t make sense so let’s move onto B) He’s actually not all that nice?? What do you mean, Kat? I MEAN GENEVIEVE IS ALWAYS IN THE PICTURE! DUDE, YOU’RE WITH LARA JEAN FREAKING COVEY! Why would you still think about your ex? Hope you don’t decide to kill me, I’m just being honest…

Second, TAMLIN obviously. I don’t want to explain this because I do not want to spoil the reading experience of those who haven’t read it yet… BUT THANK GOODNESS FOR RHYSAND.

A character you hated before and totally love/like today?

I have to say I hated Nesta. She was always this contradicting sassy potato! UGH. Like I always want her out of the picture! But as the story went on, I came to understand and like her! 🙂

An author you called your favorite but you take it back?

KIERA CASS. Yeah, I told practically the whole universe that she’s my favorite author… WELL, I TAKE IT BACK. After reading The Siren, I have to say… I’m not a fan of her writing. It ruined my high opinion of her. Sorry, Kiera. However; I do love her story and MAXON, and these are the reasons I continued on with the series.

A book you almost gave up on, but glad you finished?

For this, I would say it’s My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick. There are times when I read ebooks very slowly (and sometimes very quick). I read MLND during those slow times. I was dragging myself to read it. It took 2 months to get to 40%. I KNOW IT’S CRAZY. Then we went to the province and I took 3 books with me. There was barely any WiFi, so I had a lot of time to read. I finished all 3! I wanted to continue reading. I went through my ebooks and decided to finish this. I started from the beginning and finished it in 3 days. I LIKED IT ALOT. I could relate to the characters and felt very close to them. The story was really good! I also learned quite a lot from this book. I am very glad to have read it.

A book you didn’t get/buy that you now regret?

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender UK Hardback!!! This was available on The Book Depository for years! It was (I think) around 16-19 USD. It was also cheaper than the US hardback. I found out that this edition had something engraved on the back, I immediately went to check it out on TBD and saw that it was sold out. SOLD OUT. I requested for a special order from a local bookstore and they informed me that it was OUT OF PRINT. Now, I definitely regret not buying it before!

A book you wish you bought a different format/edition of?

Morgan Matson is my favorite author! I have all her books in hardback except for Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour 😦 I wanted my collection to match… but before her book signing, only the paperback is available so I had no choice. During the signing however, the HB became available. WHY?! I don’t want to change my copy because it’s signed, and I don’t want to have double copies because it’s impractical.

A genre you used to call your favorite?

DYSTOPIAN. I said that the best genre has to be Dystopian. That was ages ago… The themes and plot seemed to look alike in this genre. Even the romance seem to match! and DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE LOVE TRIANGLE TREND.

YAY! You made it through the end of this post! Hope you enjoyed! I also hope you give this tag a go! Help me spread it? 🙂

  1. I really liked the Uglies series, but I only read it once, and I think a lot of enjoyment of the book hinges on surprise; I’m not sure how much I would enjoy it as a reread.

I love Huntley Fitzpatrick, though! Her books are so incredibly thoughtful. I wish she got more love on the blogosphere.

    1. Great to hear you enjoyed it! I never got to read Pretties (that’s the title right?) because I really lost interest… And I am planning on reading her other books!! Which do you recommend the most? ☺️❤️

  3. I totally agree about TFIOS! The first time I read it, I was like “well everyone else loves it so maybe I do too” but after rereading it a while later I realised I really didn’t like it haha

  4. I quite agree with your thoughts on Uglies! I loved them when I was like 15, but now that I recall, I barely even remember the whole book… it’s just a bad copy of The Hunger Games.
