Synopsis:

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her… but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead… quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

My Thoughts:

Let me summarize things for you!

Describe the book in two words? Hm.. FANTASTIC & AMAZING!

The book was so so so good! I loved it right from the start! (Well actually, the first 3 chapters were kind of slow) But all throughout, it was so goooood!

Words can’t describe my thoughts on this book.. Maybe this does:

It’s good. It’s just good. If you haven’t read it yet, PLEASE DO!

If you’re intimated by High Fantasy or Fantasy books and don’t want to read this, try to change your mind and do. I swear, I avoid Fantasy or High Fantasy stuff because they’re too much to take in! BUT! This book didn’t intimidate me at all! I was just normally reading it.

It does have a touch of magic, a lot of action and thrill, a surprising amount of hilarious parts (which means a lot), and the right amount of romance. It wasn’t like those kind of books that floods you with romance that it makes you squirm… No! It also had these scenes that got me on the ‘edge-of-my-seat’ kind of thing! It also creeped me out! There was this part that scared me like crazy. I was reading at night but I stopped and had to read it in the morning! But don’t worry it’s not horror!

I have to admit the book had parts with gore and it sort of was disgusting for me. I don’t expect that much gore in a YA book! But I still loved it!

The book also had amazing characters! AND OF COURSE TWO FREAKING HOT BOYS! Aaah! Too much hotness in one book!

The book sort of reminded me of The Hunger Games! Though, this was more action-packed!

That’s all I could saaay for the non-spoilers section! JUST PLEASE READ IT IF YOU HAVEN’T! AND IF YOU DO, SAY HI TO DORIAN FOR ME xD

~Spoilers Section~

Okaaay.. I don’t even know how to start this…

First, I would like to talk about the characters!

Celaena Sardothien is one badass woman! She’s so smart and practical! I love how funny she is! Also, it makes me laugh whenever she batted her eyelashes! I like it that she reads books! Hi fellow bookworm! *waves at Celaena* I also love her character development throughout the book!

I would love to know more about Celaena’s parents! I feel bad when I read the part about her past! Especially the doorway breaking hand part! Goodness gracious, I can’t even imagine. I felt pain on my hands that time! *goosebumps* I want to know about this assassin who trained her (obviously I forgot the name). It’s just so interestinggg… Oh! and The blood ties thing Elena mentioned!! Is Celaena part fae?? or Royal blood or something idk

Dorian Havilliard.. Ahh Dorian… He’s so….. HOT. I can’t explain him! He’s the seductive kind of guy that makes you swoon and eventually you’ll fall in love kind of guy! He’s a prince which is a plus! He sort of reminds me of Maven from Red Queen and Gideon De Villiers from The Ruby Red Trilogy(which is one of my favorites!) He’s so sweet and funny! and he’s a bookworm too!!! I like it when he’s with Celaena. He just makes me blush and want to scream. I just love him lots, ‘kay?

Chaol Westfall, Captain of the Guards. He freaking reminds me of Four from Divergent! but ofc he’s better! I love Chaol as well! He’s a great character! He’s the best friend kind of guy. He’s always there to support Celaena! I love how he went from cold to sweet! He’s…. HOT as well! I love him too! I love both him and Dorian that it makes it hard to choose ugh.

Princess Nehemia… I knew something was off from the moment I first read her part in the book. I just felt it. Likee “ooohhh… this girl is hiding something”. I was very very shocked when she could speak in the common tongue well all along! I also thought she was a bad guy but thankfully no. I loved her and Celaena’s friendship! She’s a great friend! I love it when she saved Celaena during her duel with Cain. I want to know more about her!

Nox… I liked him! I just do.. He seems like a good friend! I was happy when Celaena saves him and when she told him to go when it already the top 5! I’m just glad he’s safe…

Next up! Plot and Story!

I was entertained the whole time! I was either laughing, blushing, or nervous! There were too many emotions in the whole book!

I loved all Dorian parts! I liked the Chaol parts too! One of my favorite parts is when Celaena was having her period and Chaol goes in apologizing and giving his sympathy. Then she goes “I’m not feeling well” and Chaol asks her if she’s sick them shes goes “Not ill like that”. Then she explains it to Chaol and he goes all red in the face xD I just didn’t expect to find a main character in a FANTASY book have her periods and it gets into the plot! You get me right?

Hmm… I just loved all the boys’parts! Dorian and Chaol are baes! Their parts got me like:

I definitely kept switching sides. One moment I’m Team Dorian then I go Team Chaol and so on… I will be okay as long as Celaena ends up with ONE OF THEM. However, I am rooting for Dorian because Celaena can be the queen and they can fix things together! ❤

The murderer didn’t surprise me at all! I knew it was Cain all along! Though, the murder scenes with the half bodies and missing brains freaked me out like crazy! I had to stop reading and read it during the daytime! SO SCARY!

I also love the Yulemas Ball part! Celaena’s dress! I can’t imagine it! It must have been so beautiful! I loved it when she danced with Dorian! I wish she danced with Chaol as well! Too bad she didn’t!

The most painful part to read is the duel with Cain! Poor Celaena! The whole fight made me cringe! Celaena was really in a bad state! I wanted to get in the book and shoot Cain with an arrow! And I almost forgot! I’m going to beat Kaltain up when I see her! She’s sooo annoying! Good thing she went to prison!

That’s all I could think of! I just loved the book and I’m so excited for the next book! I hope the next books will be as good as this book!

Thanks for reading my review! I am going to post a Dream Cast for Throne Of Glass so watch out for that!
